Workspot iOS Client Release 5.1.0

Prev Next

System Requirements

iOS 15 and 16.

Highlights

  • Support for iOS 16.

  • Support for dual Protocol Policies: one for when the Client is on the internal network and another for when it is not. See Location Detection. This is typically used to restrict access less for local than for Internet-connected Clients. (Note that "local" may include VPN-connected Clients unless you take steps to exclude them.)

  • Initial Client support for the new Global Desktop feature, which allows users to be assigned synchronized persistent desktops with automatic failover. Global desktops are a selective feature that is currently managed almost entirely by the Workspot Control API. Contact Workspot for more information.

  • Support for Azure AD sign-in to Workspot desktops. Previously, Azure AD sign-in was limited to the Client and Control but was not available for Workspot desktops, which used AD.

  • When connecting, the Client compares the expected value of the remote desktop's RDP thumbprint to the one provided directly by the RDP protocol to ensure that it is talking to the correct (genuine) target system, closing the connection with a warning message if not.

  • Improvements in the speed and reliability of connections by tracking the user's desktop by hostname (which never changes) in addition to its IP address and DNS (which sometimes do, especially after power management events.

Installation

Beta Release

Workspot now uses Apple's TestFlight app for beta releases.

To install the beta release:

  1. Learn about TestFlight. Note especially the "Your Privacy and Data" section.

  2. Install the TestFlight App from the App Store.

  3. From a browser on your iPhone or iPad, click the Workspot iOS Client 5.1.0 Client Beta link.

  4. Follow the installation prompts.

Production Release

The Client will be available in the App Store.

Known Limitations

  • In iOS 16, the on-screen keyboard may obscure parts of the Workspot desktop sign-in fields on the first launch of a non-persistent desktop.

  • When a power-managed desktop resumes from sleep, the connection may time out prematurely with the error "There was a problem starting your desktop. Please contact your administrator." The end-user should retry the connection BEFORE contacting the administrator, since this usually works.

  • In the Procura app, dragging a subwindow leaves a trail of duplicate subwindows.

  • If you launch and then cancel the same desktop or app twice before it connects, it will not connect when you launch it for the third time.

  • Web Apps not designed for or tested with iPhones may require extra scrolling.

  • When updating to a newer version of the Workspot Client, two Client icons are shown on your device. The duplicate icon is deleted once the new version is fully installed.

  • On published apps, the "published app" icon may overlap the "Minimize" button.

  • Some Web Apps may not display or function properly if the Web server expects only certain browsers/device combinations.

  • On the UK-layout Magic Keyboard, Control, Option, and Command key sequences do not work.

  • When multi-factor authentication is used, no error message is given if the multi-factor challenge is ignored by the user.

  • When a user launches a desktop and cancels it before it opens, the next launch will not complete. Workaround: cancel the second launch. The next launch will work normally.
