Summary
You may have noticed when deleting and creating new desktops, Workspot Control will name desktops with the next number available after the last created computer.
Example: A persistent pool exists with 10 machines named desktop-001, desktop-002, desktop-003…, desktop-010. After user1 is unassigned to the desktop-001, the desktop is deleted, and a new one is created by increasing the desktop count on the pool manually. The new desktop is named desktop-011 automatically by Control, not desktop-001. So now in Control, your 10 computers’ names start with desktop-002 and end with desktop-011.
Cause
Why does Control do this? This is because Control has been told to create a new computer, not to recreate the same one that was deleted. Control keeps track of desktop names that have been used, and unless configured to recreate desktops, will not reuse names until the pool’s last unused name (desktop-999 using the example above) has been provisioned.
Solution
To recreate the desktop after deleting, you must have the ‘Auto Create on Delete Desktop’ pool option selected.
This setting’s navigation path is:
Control > Resources > VDI Pools > Actions > Edit
Enabling this option will tell Workspot Control to automatically recreate the VM once it has been deleted. This setting will not work retroactively, so desktops deleted before this feature is enabled will not be recreated until all possible names in the pool have been used.
