Global Desktop Azure Non-Persistent

How important is Global Desktop?

Global Desktop is a business continuity feature of the Workspot VDI platform. It is designed for companies using virtual apps and desktops running within VMs in the cloud. It is not unusual where capacity issues may result in an inadequate number of desktops being available for all users. This can result in serious impacts in conducting business.

Companies want to minimize the damage of an assumed, inevitable malware/ransomware attack. Having a “cold site” ready to be deployed in short order can help mitigate the operational impact, keep people productive, and keep the business up and running.

What do they do?

Previously, we had Global Desktop non-persistent using Google Cloud. If users did not find a desktop in a particular region, this feature could scan for desktops in alternate regions and fill in for the capacity gap.

Now we can build Global Desktop non-persistent using both Google Cloud and Azure to get the best of multiple regions in a two-cloud option.

Use Cases:

  • Customers having 100 users trying to get desktops every day, starting from 8 am in the morning. If for any reason desktops are not available on a particular day, this will show a capacity error and day-to-day business will be impacted.

  • Customers have their entire use case located in the US east region. Customer wants all desktops from US east as a preference and opt for other regions only in case of failure. To solve this, they can set Load Balancing Method as : “Precedence” and the 1st precedence set to a pool in their preferred region

Workspot’s Global Desktop solution is designed to mitigate capacity issues by giving the best use of multi-region and multi-cloud VDI to end-users.
