Customer Advisory: Control Update on April 26, 2025

Control will undergo an extended update on April 26, 2025 between 0200-0300 UTC.

This affects backend services only. Control's features and version number will not change. This update will include up to 25 minutes of Control downtime (a typical Control update includes less than ten minutes of downtime).

Recommendations

  • Administrators should avoid using Workspot resources (except their persistent desktops) during the update.

  • End-users:

    • Users of persistent desktops can continue to use them normally (but with some caveats: see "Details" below). Warning them is optional if the update occurs during working hours.

    • Users of non-persistent desktops and Cloud Applications will not be able to launch new ones, but already-launched resources will continue to run. They should be warned if the update occurs during working hours.

    • Corner-case operations such as signing into a newly installed or reset Client for the first time will fail during the update.

Details

During the update, the following effects will be seen:

  • Effect on Client users:

    • Connecting to a running persistent desktop from a Client that has connected to it before will work normally.

    • Continuing to use already-launched desktop or Cloud applications will work normally.

    • New non-persistent desktop and application sessions will not work.

    • Rebooting a desktop will not work.

    • First-time use of a Client on a new device will not work during the update.

    • New user self-registration will not work.

  • The Control UI and the Control API.

    • These services will become unresponsive.

    • Operations in progress at the start of the shutdown (such as desktop provisioning) may not complete.

  • Power management:

    • Workspot Desktops and Application Servers that are running when the update begins will continue to run.

    • Desktops and Application servers that are not running (shut down, sleeping, etc.) will not start.

    • Warmup Policies, Maintenance Policies, etc. will not take effect.

  • Workspot Trends:

    • Login will be unavailable.

    • Trends should work normally otherwise.

  • Workspot Watch:

    • Login will be unavailable.

    • Watch will restart during the update.
