Importance of Shared Hosted Desktops

The newly added feature enables multiple users to have sessions on a single RHEL (Red Hat Enterprise Linux) 7.9 server, supported through Cloud App Pools. By allowing multiple users to access a single RHEL 7.9 server, customers can significantly reduce the number of servers required, leading to significant cost savings in terms of hardware and operations. Additionally, Shared Hosted Desktops provide a consistent and secure environment for users, enhancing productivity and collaboration.

How Does the IT Admin Use This Feature?

Workspot administrators can now utilize RHEL 7.9 servers in cloud app pools on Hyper-V and VMware vSphere private cloud environments to support shared hosted desktops.

The process includes:

  • Create Cloud App Pool: Use RHEL 7.9 as the base template for provisioning cloud app servers.

  • Create Shared Hosted Desktop Application: Use the application type as "Cloud App Session Hosted Desktop."

Use Cases

  • Multi-User Access: Supports concurrent sessions for multiple users on a single RHEL 7.9 server, ensuring efficient use of resources.

  • Resource Optimization: Efficiently utilizes server resources to meet user demand without the need for over-provisioning, reducing costs.

  • Centralized Management: Simplifies management and maintenance through a centralized server environment, improving operational efficiency.
