Recover User’s Data from a Corrupted Windows 10/11 Machine in Azure

Issue:

The customer admin reported that the user is not able to connect to the VM and is in an error state in Workspot Control too.

As per the VM’s Boot Diagnostics screenshot from Azure, the VM is stuck on BSoD (Blue Screen of Death).

The below option already tried to recover the VM, however nothing worked.

  • VM Restart.

  • Stop (Deallocate) and start the VM

  • Troubleshooting steps in the Advanced Options of Automatic repair screen

How to recover user data:

  • From the Azure console, take a snapshot of the faulty VM’s disk.

  • From Workspot Control, Delete and recreate the VM with the same name (auto-create on delete option is checked at the pool level).

  • Assign the user to the newly created VM from the action menu.

  • From Azure, create a disk from the Snapshot and attach it to the newly created VM.

  • Advised the user to copy any necessary data from the snapshot disk.

  • Once the data transfer is complete, detach the snapshot disk from the new VM and delete.

Resolution:

We have tried to recover the VM but couldn't. We have taken the disk snapshot and recommended to delete and recreate the error VM. For the New VM we have attached the Snapshot disk for user to copy the data and detached it once the data copy is completed by the user.
